Terrific Transport Activities {+ Click Clack Toys Giveaway}

Today is all about TRANSPORT! Such a fun theme - and so relatable for little ones because they are immersed in all different types of transport in their everyday lives. Cars, buses, trucks along the road, planes in the sky, boats in the water... They learn to ride bikes, they go on train rides, and how exciting is rubbish collection day when the big truck comes?!? So naturally (as children learn through play) when they are playing with transport toys, they are acting out what they know about real life. The essence of learning through play. Children making sense of the world around them.

We were lucky to be chosen by Click Clack Toys to feature some of their products on the blog (and there's a giveaway too if you read all the way to the end). So here are some fun ways to play with them (along with the rest of our transport toy collection).
Kindly gifted...

Construction Sensory Tub

To really make sense of what construction vehicles do - children need to have a go themselves. So I set up this tub with kinetic sand and pebbles of various sizes for Miss M to explore. The dump truck and bulldozer were set to work! I'm sure there are many more things that could be added to a tub like this - but we just kept it simple :)

Cardboard Box Car Park

There's something to appealing to kids about lining up all their vehicles...

... and it's so easy to create your own car park just with a cardboard box! This idea is thanks to B-Inspired Mama and she's added a numeracy element this this idea! (image used with permission).

Construction Vehicle Collage

This is such a cool art idea! We just printed off a template of a dump truck, coloured it in, cut it out to stick on some cardboard and then searched our pantry for the rest of our materials. We glued the brown rice on to look like the dump truck was dumping it out. (PS - how good is her colouring getting?? Not bad for 3.5!)

Road Tape

Make your own roads, shapes, letters or just one long road with this Kmart road tape. Your construction vehicles will be able to get from one place to another!

Going off topic here - but I had the HARDEST time finding this in Kmart. They were doing stocktake or something because there were staff everywhere yet NO ONE could help me find it! I had Little Man in the carrier whilst pushing a trolley, and every aisle I went down - I couldn't get through because someone was there, it was so frustrating! I asked several staff who all said "I'm not from this store!". I looked on the website via my phone - yes they had it, yes they had it at THIS STORE! I was sent to the craft section, I was sent to the stationery section and I eventually found it. It shouldn't have been that hard! Anyway, back to the post...

Lego Duplo Train

Duplo gets played with pretty much everyday in my house. We love connecting the carriages of the train and we usually add numbers, people or animals. Miss M is getting so good at putting the numbers in order, although 6 and 9 are often mixed up!

More ideas?

One of my favourite kid bloggers Kate from Picklebums shared 6 ways to play with cars over at Childhood 101. Alison at The Way He Plays also has some fabulous ideas (and her almost 3 year old is obsessed with cars!).

  1. We have that Duplo train set, it get's played with a whole lot, usually with the fire engine set in the lead! We got the Disney version with Mickey and Minnie which my 3 year old loves. The cardboard carpark is genius! I must do that. #TeamIBOT

  2. Those trucks are too cute! My 3 year old likes "diggers" an my almost 2 yest old likes cement trucks! Their favorite truck overall is a fire truck, since their Daddy is a firefighter. ;)
Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  3. That road tape is so cool! I'm going to have to brave Kmart to see if I can get some. I love the cardboard box carpark with the numbers too, my youngest would definitely get a kick out of that!

In terms of the girls favourite transport, it has to be planes. We live beside a RAAF Base and the girls spend lots of time in the backyard, waiting for the planes to come in to land (they literally come in right over our house, see this post - https://www.instagram.com/p/BGluGOVqkga/?taken-by=kyliepurtell - on IG to see what I mean, no photoshop at all!). Planes would be closely followed by the bin trucks, they run screaming to the front door every Monday arvo to watch him go by!

    1. Thanks for your entry Kylie! Will go find that photo you speak of 😀

  4. How lovely are these toys! We will be featuring these too. I love all of your play ideas. I have watched my boys drive toy cars for years.
