"Tobbles" and other Top Toys for Toddlers

Ahhhh... the toddler phase. I've been here before. My little baby is no longer a baby but a walking, climbing, exploring, busy, determined and inquisitive TODDLER! At 16 months old Little Man is into everything, especially things with buckles, locks, knobs, switches, latches, doors that open and close and buttons to push!

Toddlers can be tricky to keep entertained for more than five seconds and focus on one toy or activity long enough to actually "play" with it before moving onto the next thing. So here's just a few of Little Man's favourite toys at the moment...

Tobbles & Stacking Toys

Tobbles are a super cool new toy I discovered from Offspring Education. Because of the clever way the spheres are weighted, they are able to stack on top of each other in unexpected ways. It's a great way for little hands to practise balancing objects and exploring with size (gifted).

He also loves this traditional wooden ring stacker from IKEA, he doesn't put them in the right order yet, but he does concentrate on putting them through the rod.

Things that GO!

Pull back and go toys and cars that go down a ramp are also great for toddlers. They love cause and effect toys where their actions cause a movement reaction. This pull back dinosaur is another favourite!

Posting

This Fisher Price piggy bank was Miss M's but as with a lot of our toys we hung onto it and now Little Man has inherited it. He likes opening and closing the lid and placing the large plastic coins in one by one.

This shape sorter house also from IKEA is another good one - he's still practising, and often puts all sorts of random objects inside of it.

Duplo

About a month ago he showed an interest in Duplo, and he can now actually connect the pieces together which I was really impressed with! This is such a great activity that the kids can do together because there's enough for everyone (although Miss M just needs a reminder to not have a meltdown if Little Man breaks her creations)...

Lock Box

This would have to be Little Man's favourite at the moment. It's the lock activity box from Finlee and Me (gifted). There are 10 different doors with locks, buckles and latches for little hands to open and close, hide things in side and tinker away to their hearts content.

Similarly, when Miss M was a toddler we created her a Nuts 'n' bolts wall for her with these types of things. Check it out here

Lately Little Man has loved going on those little rides at the shops, climbing up steps at the playground and sliding down the slide, going on bike rides with his dad, and sitting in the drivers seat of the car. He certainly is a busy boy and is hard to keep up with! Thank goodness he still has two nap a day! (For how much longer I'm not sure!).

  1. Those Tobbles look great - mine are past the toddler years now but I still love all the toys for that age.
