10+ Ocean Themed Activities for Your Finding Dory Fan

It feels like the whole of Australia has gone underwater crazy for the release of Finding Dory! I haven't seen it yet - but really wanted to get this post out there ASAP for all those little people who can't get enough of the fishy fun!

Beach/Ocean Play dough

So simple but will keep them entertained for ages. Play dough + pebbles + fish and maybe even some shells if you've got them. Violia! Squishy sensory fun.

Beach Themed Sensory Tub

Meet "Beach Lily". Bring the beach indoors this winter with kinetic sand, blue pebbles and your little one's favourite doll for some fun imaginative play.

Fishy Fuzzy Felt Pictures

I grabbed these from Cheap as Chips ages ago - but I do know that my friends at Finlee and me have a set really similar to this one. A lovely low mess activity for quiet time.

Blue Jelly Ocean Sensory Bin

How cool is this blue jelly to use as water for these fishy toys! Edible messy play ideas are the BEST!

Sticker Pictures on Paintings

I love that this one combines two art mediums. Painting + stickers. Start by painting your bluey, greeny ocean background and add the stickers when dry.

Paper Plate Fish

We made these cuties at school last year during our 'Under the Sea' unit. First paint a paper plate, the when its dru cut out the mouth shape which becomes the tail. Decorate with buttons or anything else that would make the perfect scales.

Ocean Discovery Bottle

Everyone loves discovery bottles. Simply add some blue food colouring, water, blue glitter and fishies.

Ocean Rice Sensory Bin

Loyal followers will know how much we love rainbow rice in our house - and this is a really old photo (can you tell but the bad quality? - Sorry!) of one of my first attempts to make blue dyed rice.

Ocean Books!

There are so many out there but these are just a few of my favourites. Eric Carle's Mister Seahorse with the magical see through pages. The Rainbow Fish who learn the valuable lesson of sharing. And the super fun rhyming adventure of Commotion in the Ocean (I also have the CD for this one which has beautiful ocean sound effects).

Apps - Dory's Reef & Nemo's Reef

Did you know Nemo and Dory have their own apps? A little tricky for Miss M to do on her own, she needs help to read the instructions. It's one of those 'build the reef city' types of games where you buy coral and wait for them to complete. It'd be perfect for children 5 years and above to play independently.

Want more ideas? Crayon resist water colour paintings, sticky window art, squishy sensory bags or just check out Pinterest (of course).

Have you seen the movie yet? Is it amazing?

  1. Where did you get your fish figurines Lauren? I really want some little ones like that for sensory bins too. Great ideas.

    1. You know what Toni - I've had them for soooo long, since I started teaching. I bought a lot of my own resources in the early days so took them all home when I finished up at work, and now Miss M gets to enjoy them. Sorry but I honestly can't remember! Could have been somewhere random like the Melbourne aquarium on holiday?!?

  3. The movie is fantastic! I liked it better than Nemo. I love paper plate fish, we have made quite a few of them over the years, I think it might be time to revisit them now that Zee is old enough to participate too!

Visiting belatedly on behalf of #teamIBOT
