The Marvellous Mister Maker LIVE Show

Today Miss M and I headed on the train (as we do) to the Adelaide Festival Theatre to see Mister Maker LIVE! If you read this blog, I'm sure you can imagine that I was just as excited as her!

Do you remember the 80s/90s kids show Art Attack? I reckon Mister Maker is just like the modern version. I love that he encourages little ones to get creative and excited about making art. All his regular segments and phrases of the TV show had their place in the live show; minute make, the shapes, mini makers plucked from the audience, tocky, frame it, oh and of course the famous scissor warning. Miss M learnt this at a very early age ;)

The live show promised audience interaction to help with the making... I was eager to see how they were actually going to pull this off!

We all got to scrunch our paper to create these giant shapes. Well played Mister Maker. Throughout the show there were lots of opportunities for the kids to get up, dance and wiggle. The performers were really energetic and did a great job to support the star. Camera also made sure that you didn't miss any of the making happening, because you could see it all on the big screen.

The show was perfectly timed for the school holidays, and it really suited school aged children (under 5s loved it too - however during some of the songs I felt like I was at a school disco - in a good way!). Current 'top 40' types songs were woven throughout (Avicii would you believe?).

Some of my highlights  were Mister Maker's own versions of the Hokey Pokey and Old MacDonald had a farm. So cleverly done! And the host appealed to the mums, dads and grandparents in the audience with some cheeky humour.

One more thing I rated very highly, was the choice of activity kits and books that were available at the merchandise stand (usually at these types of performances it's just ridiculously expensive soft toys).

So here's what we got in our card making kit...

...and here's what we made!

A kids TV show all about art is not an easy thing to translate to the theatre, but they have done such a great job. I would highly recommend it!

Here are some of the other live show's we've seen over the past year. Have you got a favourite?

Not sponsored or gifted, we just loved it and I'm always happy to share our experiences of live theatre with my readers. #iamashape

PS - Does anyone else think that Mister Maker is like a British version of Jimmy Giggle? Or is that just me?

  1. Mr Maker does remind of Art Attack and Jimmy Giggle! Miss L has loved him from a very early age and learnt her shapes through watching him. The Mister Maker ipad app is really good, I've even had a few goes of it myself and it has a good variety of activities!

  4. Oh no...he ain't a patch on our Jimmy Giggle me thinks ;) Glad it was fun; great card making kit. Better than some of the highly priced rubbish that breaks in the car on the way home from these shows.
