When it's Time to Move from Swaddle to Sleeping Bag

I really love writing about baby things on my blog - even though I've obviously been through it all before with Miss M I didn't have my blog back then. There are so many milestones that seems to all happen at around 6 months; growing out of the capsule, moving to a car seat, changing the pram around, using the high chair to eat solid foods, first tooth (still waiting), sitting up, rolling over and so many more wonderful things.

I can't actually remember how we went about moving Miss M from her swaddle to a sleeping bag, but I'm sure it was around this age. The recommendation is that when they can roll, it's time! And we are definitely there with Little Man. He's been rolling for a while, so we gave him a try in a sleeping bag - but he just flapped his arms about - no way was he going to sleep!

As he got stronger and started rolling in his swaddle in the cot - we needed to persist and make the change. Poor little man can't roll back so once he's on his tummy he's stuck!

We gave it a week and tried again in his new cosy Plum sleeping bag (kindly gifted for the purpose of this review). Whoever invented these sleeping bags for babies and toddlers is a genius! There's no escaping their cosy warmth - no blankets to kick off. So snuggly for babies. Pictured here is the 6-18 month size, which looks huge, but it means there's plenty of room to grow, and little press studs in the arm holes make it fit littler bubbas.

See the collection of Plum sleeping bags here! Available in original, organic or bamboo fabrics, 0.5 tog for summer, 1.0 is a bit thicker, or 2.5 for chilly winter like right now! There are so many cute colours and patterns. (Just remember these sleeping bags are not designed to be used with any other bedding, sheets, blankets, quilts etc. over the top).

Thanks to the team at Plum! I'm sure this sleeping bag will get heaps of use!

In other news, we're finally getting better sleep in this house! Only up once at 3:30 last night!! That's more like it little man. I actually feel human today. Let's see if it lasts.

  1. We love our Plum sleeping bag too. Sleeping bags have definitely helped with my anxiety at night too knowing she's warm and can't get all tangled up in blankets.

    1. I know Denyse! This year has flown. It's been really challenging, so now I'm half way through I need to stop and appreciate my maternity leave and take it all in!!

  3. Fortunately it was warm when Miss L transitioned out of swaddles so we just popped the arm wings off (we used Love To Swaddle Up) and went from there. Took a few nights to get used to it as she loved her swaddle but came good at the end. Now she kicks her big girl blankets off and I wish I still had sleeping bags!

    1. Yeah I've heard those wings are really good to keep their little arms warm and snug... It does take them a while to get used to it, but I'm glad we're there now!

  5. We loved using sleeping bags when my kids were babies, and used them all the way to one year of age. So much easier than blankets and sheets because they can't kick them off! Little man looks adorable in his Plum one.

  6. Sleeping bags rock! We only gave up on sleeping bags when the ikds moved to a big bed. And now we get woken at least once every night to tuck them back in.

    1. Same here Kylie - once we took the sides of the cot and it became a toddler bed she used a quilt.

  7. He looks very cute. All my babies were born in Darwin so I never used sleeping bags. It was always way too hot for them.
