Last Minute Father's Day IDEAS!

Dad's special day is coming up this weekend so it's time for us mums to get our creative on and make some stuff with the kids. In my house we got busy with salt dough, handprints, footprints and dotty pictures!

(Visit my guest post at Baby Hints & Tips for the full post on Baby Footprint Art)

Salt dough is a pretty simple recipe - very similar to play dough. Just combine 1 cup of salt, 1 cup of flour and half a cup of warm water together and allow plenty of time to bake your creations at a low temp (around 120 degrees) for 3 hours to dry it out. We did Little Man's footprint first, and then Miss M made her own with the left over dough. Once dry and cool she painted them with these cute fluro paints and glitter glues!

That little footprint melts my heart!

Sweet little hand or footprints on a canvas are always a winner, and are great for babies and toddlers. My tip is to use an ink pad rather than paint - they turn out much clearer - see below, can you tell which is which??

PS how good is my tractor drawing?? (Copied it from Pinterest - I'm not that clever).

My friend Alison's little boy made this cute painted frame for his dad which looks super easy. Cindy from Your Kids OT shares this great origami tie and writing prompt which would be great for school aged kids. And The Organised Housewife has a brilliant collection of handmade gift ideas. But if you aren't that crafty and don't want to do the homemade gift thing - you could always just help your little ones to make a card. Here's my 'toddler version' - just cut up some of their toddler scribble to spell the letters 'Dad'.

And our preschooler version - get them to trace over the letters with a dotty texta.

There are heaps of books around that would make a nice addition to your pressie. Photo gifts are always easy peasy too. Liv (my blogger bestie aka Eenie Meenie Miney Mum) told me that she's bought Lego for her kids to give their dad! I love that it's an activity they can do together (I think dad's secretly love building with Lego as much as their kids do).

And a last little find that I couldn't help but share, are these matchy matchy outfits from a small biz right here in Adelaide - Little Bird House Boutique. Father's Day outfit for the kids SORTED! I'll be sure to share a pic on Instagram of them all dressed up on Sunday.

Now I have it on good authority (from James) that Dad's also like edible gifts. Or if all else fails send them to Bunnings to choose their own present (and if you're kids dad is like him he'll come back with something random like a hose reel). HAHA!

  3. Oh! Those teeny tiny footprints are just adorable. Love the addition of the fluoro paint - it looks fantastic. There's something about handmade gifts from kids that are just so special. I know that Handy Hubby would prefer something like that than anything fancy (and it's not like he has to wait long until Christmas anyway!) xx

  7. Awesome ideas! I especially love those Dad's Apprentice shirts, they are so cute! I have been a total lackey in organising anything for Dave for Father's Day this year. He'll be working anyway, so it's not like we'll really get to celebrate, but I think I might sit down with the girls this afternoon and get them to make him a card and draw him some pictures, something he always loves.

  8. I've been meaning to make salt dough for so long, but still haven't gotten around to it. We did fathers day crafting yesterday and needless to say there was glitter glue everywhere. #teamIBOT
